Can't be sure from the pic, but might be a Black Racer/Indigo. They get about 6', and fast!

By the way, Indigos are protected, and a real good snake to have around.
Two questions. How long was this snake, and was it in Jonesboro or the vicinity?

I`ll go with black rat snake. Out of the normal range of an Indigo, and the color ain`t quite right.

Tough to tell from that pic, but I'm gonna venture a guess based on head size / shape, scale size / smoothness and the propensity to be more triangle shape when agitated instead of ribboning up like a rat snake will, I'm going with Black Racer.
