Once upon a time there was a short dog, a tall man and a vintage 17 foot canoe.
The man and the dog dearly loved the creek that they lived on but occasionally they got a deep craving, dare I say yondering feeling to go out into the big lake which lay right around the bend from their dock. You might not get this but while there is safety and security in a creek a fella often gets a drive in his heart to leave hearth and home and pursue the unknown.
Knowing thunderstorms were predicted for later in the day the duo decided to leave right before daylight and return by 9:00 AM this morning. The man knew that lightning and a 17 foot aluminum canoe on a big lake was not a wise idea so he stuck to the 3 ½ hour schedule.
After coffee and oatmeal, the two friends embarked (the dog loves that term) on their adventure. It takes about 20 minutes to get in the lake so by 6:15 AM they were pretty much in position. They drifted cut Bream under floats for most of the morning then anchored and continued floating their cut bait to no avail.
By 8:30 the clouds were gathering, the wind was picking up and the man and the dog decided to head for home.
They weren’t disappointed at all because in those short 3 ½ hours they already had more fun than most folks would have all week.
