mounting a new scope on my brother's savage 110 30-06 and found that the weaver style bases are too far apart, as the scope is a shorter tube than whats currently on it. I'm going with leupold standard one piece base and rings like what Ive got on most of my guns. Question is, for you guys with similar set-ups, did you have to use the extended rings? Also, the scope is 50mm....you think I'll be able to get away with using medium height rings? thanks for any help guys

There is an offset base so it shortens the space between the bases. I have one, can't remember if it is Leupold or not. Other option and most will not like it is get the see thru weaver mount type rings and turn one around backwards, they have a lean to them and you can turn the leans toward each other so it shortens the spacing also. If I remember, may take some pics and upload this evening.

I think this link is what I have on one of mine, turned the rear base forward to shorten the span.

Here are the see-thru. Just turn them toward each other.

I listed the base for the round receiver, if you have an older flat receiver, you will need a different one. Seems like the accu-trigger has the round one and the others have flat rear.

Not sure if I addressed your question or not..

The full length standard base has the ring over the action. The 2 piece in the zip lock will hang over the action also.

I really like full length base, i feel it makes the action sturdier.
