Ever use a scope smaller than 40 mm?

I have a Leupold Vari-X 3 1 3/4 x 6 with a 32 mm. objective on my 30-06 and I love it. It's plenty bright and I like the low profile and lightness of it. Thinking about moving it to a .35 Remington.

You don't always get the best light transmission with the giant objective diameters. Plus those smaller objective scopes look right at home on the smaller carbines:

The bigger boomers also just "look right" with the smaller objective scopes:

Your M7 looks just right with a 33mm objective.
Kudos to you for mounting it as far forward as you can!!

I have the same scope on a Remington 7x57 Mountain Rifle, and I think it works just fine.

I had a Montgomery Ward 2.5 power scope on my Marlin 336 that I paid $15.00 in 1963. It only had a bell on the eye piece. I fell down in the snow and bent the eye piece at least 1/6" down and it kept its zero which amazed me.

I've got a couple of scopes with objectives smaller than 40mm, advantage of smaller objectives is you can mount it closer to the centerline of the barrel, which allows you to have a longer "dead zero" range, I think there is a point where the larger objectives don't really add light transmission anyway, especially if they are hampered by a 1 inch tube, I've got a weaver scope with a 32mm objective and a 30mm tube that is as bright as my VarixIII 40mm with 1 inch tube.

My son has a compact model 7 in .243 that has a Vortex CF2 that is 2x7x32. Great scope for the money, nice compact size. Excellent tree stand rig.
