Maybe I'm wrong, but I read this as the poster adding to the poetic charm of the hunt that was illustrated by the OP. As in, the brute of a buck would have disagreed with the ownership of who "owned" the hill.
If I'm wrong, then the following comments are well warranted. If I'm not, another case of . . . . well nevermind. Carry on. . . .

Aaahhhh, if Mr LaGrange meant it in that context - I apologize completely.
It is a great beast and unfortunately - negativity often creeps into the best of reports on the forum.
