Public Land and License Price Increase

There's close to 2 million acres of public land in Georgia you can hunt.

I know there are plenty of people that don't hunt public land because they think it's too crowded or dangerous but... I love hunting public land and I surely appreciate all the that DNR does to provide us with this as an option. I couldn't have done nearly the hunting I have in other places besides at home if it weren't for public land. The price of the license is a small price to pay for what you're getting in return, especially when compared to lease prices. What Charlie said, "close to 2 million acres" :fine: I'm going to bet there are many who agree with me or it wouldn't be so hard to get drawn for these quota hunts. Don't forget, there are plenty of opportunities to hunt that aren't quota too. Thank you to the Georgia DNR Wildlife Resources Division for all you do

I agree! Hunt public land almost 100% of the time.

Those are some great public land kills. I normally rotate between public and family land. And I try not to talk to much about quota hunts;)

I agree! I thoroughly enjoy public land and most of my kills the last few years have come from them.

I have hunted public land for 25 years and and has not had any problems. I have had to change spots a few times , but for the most part it has been great.

Thanks Debbie, we have a lot of great folks that work very hard for those places to be the best they can be. They also step up during natural disasters like Hurricane Irma clearing roads and providing assistance to the public.

I like the big buck and the huge gator. Keep it up Debbie. And I see you did get a climbing treestand. Is that a Summit?

Old thread, but i agree with Boots 100%..
I hunt public land
exclusively and see and harvest all the deer i need..
If you can get away from the easy access parking spots and off
the foot travel only trails you will see deer ..

It is first come hunt areas, so you need to be tolerant if you happen to see someone.....Miles and miles of land to explore !!

DNR does a great job, but we need more Officers to patrol and enforce Game Laws...

If you are 65 years old, you get your license free. Is there any charge for the WMA'S for the 65 year old to hunt or fish?

All depends on when you turn 65. With the license increase last year there is a small fee for those turning 65 unless they have a lifetime license. If born before 7/1/52 there is no fee. Otherwise you can get an annual sportsmans license for $7 or a Sr lifetime license.
