Checking Generation Gap
I have been wondering about this for awhile now.
I am at the End of the Baby Boomer Generation.
The question will be this " How many carry a 1911 or single action semi auto Daily"
And NO lyin about you age....LOL
Myself I learned to shoot on the single action platform . Revolver and semi auto.
And I am 51
21 to 30 years old
30 to 40 years old
40 to 50 years old
50 + years old

I don't carry specifically a 1911, but it's a 1911 type pistol...it's a Browning HiPower, still a single-action autoloader.
The first handgun I shot was an old Colt Woodsman my dad owned. I actually learned to shoot handguns with a revolver when I was a teenager, though...a Smith and Wesson Model 19.
I'm in the 50+ category.

Im 44 and tho I havent always carried a 1911 daily .......I now carry my Kimber SPC or some other 1911 45acp daily !
and even tho 1911s come in other calibers ....its the 45acp that has the power that means business in self defense !

I`m 54, and I personally don`t trust anything that`s automatic. I like revolvers and-or single shots.

It's a good thing that pistols arent automatics huh? Unless of course you carried a Glock 18, but I dont think that there are any owned by individuals.

Scuse me. Let me rephrase that to semi-automatic. I don`t trust those either.

Now I have heard of and have a BBQ gun , but never thought of what coordinates with my outfit. Does that mean color or caliber?

Nic, I'm 60, and I don't necessarily distrust my 1911A1s, but I trust MYSELF with a good ol' S&W Double Action revolver a heap more than I do with the semis now. No safety or magazines for my old carpal tunnel dead fingers to fumble with. Just point and shoot.

I hear a lot of folks say this, and it makes sense, but I am curious as to how many actual trials have been conducted.
Say if you drop both in the sand then pick them up. I am wondering if the semi-auto isn't the most likely to function correctly in a case like that.

Back when I was '29 and younger' I did carry a 1911. Now that I am 55 with 30 more years of age and experience I carry a P11 in my pocket. A P11 in the pocket is more effective than a 1911 left at home or left in the truck.
After a season of PPC revolver competition back in the 80's I don't consider a revolver to be the last word in reliability.

I will soon be 62 and my carry guns are Keltec 380, J Frame Smith, Sig P239, or Smith 629 3" Backpacker.
I never care to carry a 1911 although I own several. I love to shoot them, but don't care to carry with the hammer down or cocked and locked. Just my view.

I'm 41 and carry a 1911 on the hip everyday that I'm in a place where I can carry and a Chief's Special on the ankle all the time.
I try to stay away from places that don't allow carry or where carry is prohibited. This allows me to keep my weapon with me and not left in the truck.

Hey Mike, you need too revisit your poll. To truly reflect the change you would need an option for "other carry" in each age range. That would give an idea of any shift in preference.

the summer I turned 21 I saved about $800 and went and bought a kimber. they weren't nearly as popular (or expensive) then. It has been my go-to carry gun since.

I thought about adding that in also Luke . But I cant figure out how to. If one of the Mods could do it (hint hint) I would like to add in another choice.
(5) I wouldn't carry a single action semi-auto on a Bet.

I didn't vote because I don't have, much less carry a 1911, when I do get one though I will most likely not carry it, it will be my plinking/nightstand gun.
I'll always carry my Glock 23.
I'm 26

If I was out of college and had a job, I'd definitely carry a 1911 in the winter. My frame isn't large enough to comfortably conceal a 1911 in the summer. I'm under 29.

I'm 52 (will be friday), like to shoot a 1911 but carry a Glock 27(department issue). Personal carry is a Glock 30, like the caliber but not single action. I am the idiot that has a mental problem with cocked and locked. It is my personal shortcoming (many others also, no jokes) that I have to live with. Cut my teeth on a revolver and there is nothing like a Colt Diamondback/Python.

I carry a fullsize in colder weather as attire allows. I carry it when doing business transactions or when something more "formal" is required. It's my go-to gun when going somewhere high risk due to size, caliber, comfort, and sheer intimidation factor.
I'm 25.
Hotter weather usually gets my G22, S&W 642, or Micro Eagle. Just depends.
Been around guns my whole life. Got a Red Ryder at 5, single shot Marlin .22 at 7. I shot my grandfather's 16ga., 20ga, and various 22 (S, LR, and Mag) pistols from 12 on. He let me shoot .25ACP and .38 specials after I turned 14.

I like the 1911 and have used several for carry. The LW Commander was a favorite. Had problems with the safety getting pushed off so switched to a thumb break for that type of carry. Was issued a G17 and had to use a 9mm by regs. Got a G26 when they first came out and used it for carry ever since. When qualifying I only drop a few points from the G17. Much better accuracy than a snubbie for me. Sometimes I use a 44 mag Taurus 5 shot Tracker but its rare. Im 60.

Who wants to leave a bunch of litter on the ground in the form of .45 ACP shell casings? They are so hard to find when you all you want to do is reload them. Autos are for the range only for me. A .357 with six shots is sufficient (I hope) as the majority of defense situations need zero shots from what I've read over the years in the various gunning publications. My philosphy is that if you have to shoot a bad guy, you better get him with #1 or #2 or it's too late. I'm under 29.

I turned 40 Nov. 1st and carried my Springfield 1911A1 religously until I bought my Springfield XD .45 in March....nothing like 13 rounds of .45 to end a disagreement!
I learned to shoot a 1911 in the Army and I hated it when they took them away and issued us the 92F....which was fine if you was a REMF but this grunt prefered the 1911 .45....especially those of us that humped the pig and had it as a back up.

40 years young and though I love the 1911's I am wearing my G27 as I type. I carry the G27, G23 and G19 regullarly. I don't own a 1911 right now but plan on it soon. I will still carry my Glocks though.

Used to carry an SA 1911 often and when not that then a 92F. Now I find myself carrying a G23 almost daily.
Learned on a Ruger Security Six revolver and that was my only handgun for about 10 years until I got the 1911 in the mid '90s.
Oh, and I'm 42...

1911 fad
I`m not knocking 1911s.Best combat handgun ever, possibly.I don`t own one,but want a Kimber.Probably won`t carry it a lot.I carry different guns, depending on the environment that I will be in.I think the carry of the 1911s has gotten to be more of a fad that will slowly fade.Same as the Glocks.

I have carried daily one of the following G21, G36, 1911 ( cocked and locked) Keltec P32,Steyr M9 and S9......of all those my favorites are the 1911 Govt, the S9 and the KelTec.
I like the .45 cartridge but the S9 (9mm) is alot lighter and more compact, the same goes for the Keltec but its for clothing where even the Steyr is hard to conceal!!!!
Having said all that given the option of picking only one gun to carry it'd be the 1911!
