Default Glock 21

Going to get a Glock 21. Decided on this for a full size .45 ACP open carry.
Need expert input here on the differences between the Gen3 and Gen4.
I trust the opinions on this forum.

I've only shot the gen 4. I like my 21.

I haven't touched the g3 but I've read they grip is different, finger grooves on the 4. And a few small differences.

I guess the backstraps on the 4 help if you have hands on the extremes of size.

Hope it helps you.

The gen 4 comes with 3 mags and interchangeable backstraps. The grip is also more comfortable, imo. I'd go gen 4.

There is a slight difference in grip feel between the Gen3 and Gen4 to me, I had a Gen3 model 23 and sold it and bought a G23 Gen4, I don't use the added backstraps cause my hands aren't overly big, there is supposed to be a difference in the recoil springs but I can't tell the difference in shooting it. If pricing is comparable get the Gen4, if the Gen3 is a lot cheaper I'd go with it. Gen3's do have finger grooves as well, there should be some comparison videos between the two online , probably youtube.

I have a Gen 3 SF and like it a lot. Very soft shooting 45 and reliable as it gets. The standard Gen 3 grip is big, too big in my opinion. If I were buying another I'd get the Gen 4 for sure. Better grip texture and newer recoil spring design.

Both have finger grooves. Gen 4 has interchangeable backstraps and a little more aggressive grip texture..
Gen 4 has a newer, more enviromentally friendly finish, which some don't like as well.
Gen 4 trigger pull is slightly different but none of the features mean that much.
I have both gen 3 and Gen 4 Glocks and cannot tell all that much difference.
The G21 is a great gun, just go with the best deal and what feels best to you.

Thanks all.
I have large hands. The grip is what steered me away from a Ruger American.

I think the gen 4 is the same size as the 3rd gen sf (slim frame). I’m not 100% sure on that though.

All Gen 3 Glocks can use Gen 1-4 magazines but the Gen 4 ambi release catch requires Gen 4 mags only. Not a major deal but limits you to new Gen 4 mags only.

I don't own any Gen 4 Glocks; have standard Gen 3 20 and 21. They are big guns but most of my other target guns have L or XL size grips on them so the grip frame does not bother me.

Gen 4s work wonderfully with the cheap, plentiful, and reliable magpul glock mags. Gen 3 as well.

Looks like $600 is going rate for a Gen4.
GunBroker is a little less but with transfer fees it's pretty close.
Does that sound about right?

$600 out the door is probably about right, but it's not the lowest I've seen. I picked mine up used for a little under $500.

If you have info on where to get one for 5 - 550, I'll own one before nightfall.

Look up " Dana Safety Supply" according to a post on another forum they are supposed to have some police trade-in G21's that are Gen4, at least in their location above Atlanta, but they have locations all over.

In doing some further reading, it appears that they stopped selling " assault type rifles" to the civilian population back in 2013? I don't know if that still is their stance or not ? if it is I myself probably wouldn't buy from them? You might make sure they will sell handguns to the general public, although the post I saw on the other forum was from an employee of the company and implied they would ?

Georgia Firing Line in Marietta has them listed at $545.00 new for a G21 Gen4 on their gallery of guns website. It will be the same or cheaper in store. Davidson's is currently out of stock of them but give the store a call and see if they have one on the shelf.

The post I saw was less than that, a good bit less than that in fact, police trade-ins with little to no wear was the way they were described.

Last G21 I shot was a Gen3.

I have big paws and it fit nicely....felt great....shot great....was great.

Fast forward a few years and I tried other Glocks in the Gen4 variety...mostly 9mm.

All I can say is that I'm a hyooge fan of the Gen4 now.

I'd imagine a Gen4 G21 would be a sweet pistola.

Update.....

Had to put the G21 on hold.
Found a sweet Ruger Mark 1 .22 I couldn't resist.
Been wanting one since the 60's.
SN shows it as 1966.

Will continue the G21 search shortly.

Similar thing happened to me. Id been squirreling the money away for a new deer rifle but my house sniffed it out and I ended up having to replace all 4 toilets in all my bathrooms. Really only needed to replace 2 but didnt want to mess with it so did all 4. Bye bye new Winchester model 70.

Musta been Kohler's or Feguson's to eat up a whole model 70.

You coulda went with American Standards and still got a Savage.
