This is an interesting of how they went to Greenland to rescue some old WWII military aircraft. Don Brooks and Pat Epps are part of the Georgia connection.
I think they continue with military aircraft restorations in Douglas, Ga.

You have to scroll down to read the Don Brooks article;

Another plane recover site;

Thanks for posting this, I enjoy reading these kinds of articles.

There was a similar story, about a b29 being rescued in Greenland, and the project too 2 summers to get the bird ready to fly.

On the takeoff taxi, the bumping tipped an ?apu? Spilling fuel, and igniting the plane. All the folks could do was watch.

Maybe this story? I never heard but went searching after your post.

The attempted repair and return of the Kee Bird was documented in the 1996 NOVA television episode "B-29 Frozen in Time"

I think this is from the NOVA documentary. Comment below the video on Youtube;

"In the full 2hr video, they show the plane bouncing wildly as it taxis over the ice runway. This bouncing caused the jury rigged fuel can to dismount and spill onto the APU.(Auxiliary Power Unit)

The whole documentary is on Youtube.

There's some very interesting vids on youtube about eastern Europeans and Russians out metal detecting old battlefields and camps. Also a lot of stuff on dragging tanks out of swamps.
