Spring time fishing is here! The weather over the last week did us some major favors in pushing the fish upriver. Water temps have jumped from about 53 to 60 in about the last 5 days.
Saturday was a really good mixed bag of both crappie and white bass. You could find both in the same areas, and could catch either on alternating casts. All of the normal spots had fish such as sandbars, drains, and wood. I threw pretty much threw a Strike King Slabalicious all day. Color was tuxedo black/chartreuse on a 1/8 oz head. I did throw a Bobby Garland Baby Shad (lights out color) under a float later in the evening when I found some larger crappie.
Sunday I wanted to go back and get on the big crappie I left Saturday, but the white bass had other plans. They had moved in by hordes over night. I've caught a lot of white bass in my life, but Sunday may have been one of the best. I left fish biting numerous time just to go look around and kept landing on fish. Anywhere from just south of Franklin, all the way to New River, had fish. I used the same bait from Saturday, but also used a bucktail, just to keep from tearing up so much plastic.
I really don't see anything in the forecast that should hinder the bite going forward, at least not in the next 10 days. I would fully expect some hybrids to start showing up leading up to the full moon on the first.
