Amen to B&J's. Wife and I are regulars.

If you ever want Wild Caught Georgia White Shrimp look up Skinner's Seafood on the internet. Owned and operated by Christine Skinner, who is in her 80's and a delight, and children. Operate their own boats, have a dock, and supply, among others, B&J's. Last I bought were very large shrimp and $6 a lb. with heads off. Whether that is a friend's price or not, I don't know. If she has flounder and/or whiting will sell for $2 lb. Known her for years, stayed with her and her husband and went out on their boats when her husband was alive. Since I helped the work crew pick shrimp out of the net release, her husband would just fill my cooler with shrimp for free.

Now if we don't get invited to eat NC's shrimp, don't despair. About 10 years ago, the Boston Globe did an article on the I-95 corridor through Georgia and proclaimed it to be some of the best food along I-95 from Boston to Florida, provided one likes barbecue and fried shrimp. Some of these places are no longer in business, but the ones that still exist are worth going to. Archie's is mentioned in the article and B&J's is noted as the successor to Archie's preeminence. I am not going to tell you how old I am, but when I played high school football, our team bus would stop on the way back from getting shellacked by Glynn Academy at Archie's when it was in a brick storefront building near the river before it moved north on 17. Those platters of shrimp and fish eased the pain of loss.

A few years ago, a friend who is a retired Methodist minister, took his son on a fried shrimp tour from Savannah to Daytona, sampling fried shrimp along the way. They ate at over 20 places over the 3-4 day tour. Without a doubt, B&J's was the tops according to him. He's also done barbecue tours with old classmates through Georgia, Tennessee and NC. He does it not to write about it, but to enjoy the food.

B&J's in Darien is no joke! One of my favorite places to eat on the planet :D

There should be a law against Food Porn on GON. If you are ever in downtown Darien, the best restaurant shrimp in the world, fried of course, is at B&J's Steaks and Seafood. Can't say much about the ambiance of the place, but the shrimp is mighty fine. They have access to Georgia Wild Shrimp year round from local shrimpers and the count is about 20/lb. and are fried to perfection. Gil

That was a joking response to this post: :D

My wife does not approve!
She says everything on the plate is brown and you should have color contrast for presentation.

I married a stupid woman!
