I'm not the rifleman ya'll are. Sometimes the deer doesn't fall down and I have to follow it for a bit. I shoot something that will knock off hair and make an exit wound so I can get started at it with minimal fuss. I've never noticed the recoil shooting at an animal so it's never been a factor to me. No hair and no exit wound would have been big a few times.....especially in the last few minutes before dark.
