60 minutes Remington model 700...holy smokes...

This is definitely a knock against Remington, and rightly so. But they have taken the necessary steps to correct this. Frankly, anyone who handles a gun should be pointing it in a safe direction anyway...

Ever notice how these "issues" cost people "big bucks" but somehow it never happens on a doe?

We'll see a new post about this again next year when 60min decides to air it again.

I love my 700s and model 7s. A three screw trigger walker trigger done right is a heck of a hunting trigger.

I really, I mean really, hate to have to point this out to this group but do y'all really think 60 minutes runs this crap to help inform the NRA membership of a potential safety issue in an earnest effort to help all of us 2nd amendment loving gun owners be safe?

This piece is not about gun safety, it is about gun control as in BANNING all guns. Reference Australia if you have any doubt what socialists will do.

The radical leftist media will do anything, subtle or in your face, to get the public to go anti-gun. Anyone on this forum, especially on this forum, who is swayed by this type of propaganda is proof that the lefts tactics work. Heck if it works on supposedly 2nd amendment loving hunters it darn sure will work on little Mr. and Mrs. urban liberal.

For those of you who want Remington drawn and quartered over this, do you feel just a little bit used by 60 minutes?
If not what car do you drive? Because if this crap has traction with you I can real quickly put you on a bicycle once I get done listing all of the safety recalls on your favorite car maker. And then your second choice, and so on.

See what is before you and act accordingly. Freedom requires it.:flag:

yep, 60 minutes is a hack reporting org, but it is a good thing to let people know about the recall. A few on here have said they knew nothing about it, although it has been in the works for a couple years now.

Just because 60 M did the piece, doesn't mean there is not an issue, does it?

No pappy it does not. But people swearing off Remington because of this piece is the problem. People having their thinking influenced by it is the problem. People being lulled to liberal sleep by it and other such reporting is the problem.

2nd amendment loving gun owners are not 60 minutes audience. The piece is to seed the idea of how dangerous guns are thereby influencing those with no gun interest or knowledge to slip ever closer to supporting gun control.
That is the problem.

Do you think the piece was solely intended to help inform about a safety issue?

Best post in the thread. Some of you who seem to think because your favorite brand doesn't have this particular problem, that makes it ok for 60 M to basicly flat out lie about what happened in those two cases. Mr and Mrs Public watching the show won't remember the brand, just that some evil gun killed someone. I have a couple 700's that were recalled. One already had a Timminy in it, the other I sent back, and had it returned in about 2-3 weeks.

I own five or six model seven's and 700 rifles and have hunted with them for at least 25 year's. I have never had a single problem out of mine until a couple of year's ago when I got my model 700 in 308 tactical with a bull barrel that had never been fired with a round in it and got it out to love on it when I closed the bolt the gun fired and my heart stopped!!!
There was no round in it and I had it pointed in a safe direction as always . I know these guns like the back of my hand and I know I made no error. I put the gun back in the safe and it is still there for now.
I had seed the 60 min piece and didn't believe a word of it till then but still hunt with my model seven and will till the day I die.
Gun safety is #1 in my book and if you employ that then all is well!!!

Bought mine in 1995 so I guess the trigger is not defective. Best 270 ever.

It Happens

I have a cousin that is not a member of this forum but he has a model 700. A few years back he was hunting with it and clicked off the safety and the gun fired. I personally don't own any Remington bolt-action rifles but if I had a model 700 I would get the trigger mechanism changed out on it. But that's just me.

There is no lie being told here. Even the "team fake news" 60 minutes is not lying about this subject. It has been a matter of fact for at least 20 years that I know of that Rem 700's have been firing when the safety is disengaged and no finger is on the trigger. I have witnessed it myself. Hunt with what you want. I sure do love my old Winchester's.

30+ years hunting with Model 7's and 700's with Walker triggers. Never had a problem.

A lot of good posts here but honestly even after many thousands people reported trigger safety issues going back to the late 70's Remington still ignored the issue. I'm sure there are many that work fine and are safe however I will not own one especially now.

Many settled suits and judgments against them and finally a recall? Too late.

I spoke at length with a custom gunsmith last week about this issue. He said there is also a problem with rust forming underneath the trigger connector which changes the specs of trigger travel by a few 10 tho. I will be changing both of mine to Timney's even though they are not affected by the recall.

Guys, I read a lot of your forums but don't post to much but felt I should chime in on this one. This is absolutely a real problem. I have owned a rem. 700 ADL S.S. 3006 since approx. the year 2000 when I bought it new. it has had problems from the beginning. At first it would fire once and the firing pin would not reset upon chambering another round for a second shot. this happened many times to me. I then had it worked on many times by professionals and then had the gun fire when taking the safety off twice. this gun is in my safe still to this day. I am to scared to use it or lend it out so it does not go to camp with me and I am afraid to sell it like that. I will be sending it in for the recall thanks to you guys bringing to light this information. I purchased a Winchester model 70 SS classic feather light in 7mm08 and have been using it for many years. great gun never had any problems with it. I think the Remington gun is a great gun but don't use it without getting the trigger fixed not worth having an accident. Be safe !!!!

Buy yourself a Timney trigger. It is a very simple job to replace them. If you send it off to Remington, you will pay shipping, have to remove, replace, and resight your scope, and in the end, you will have spent as much money as DIY.

How many of you drive Chevrolet or Ford trucks..or even Hondas for that matter. Or did you swear off them after Takata issues...bet some of you still drive them...just swapped out the airbag and kept rolling.

Maybe 60 Minutes did some a favor by running this before hunting season started good again. Maybe it informed a few more folks that don't keep up that there is a trigger issue with them...same choices..replace it and roll on...don't need to swear off the whole thing.

I would buy all those junk rifles and with that junk Walker trigger just sitting in safes being unsafe that I could scrape the money up for...don't you all rush me at once.

What he said, when you get it back you will have a new trigger set to 5-6 lbs. took mine out my self and threw it away put in a Tunney 2.5.
