Cobra Firearms maybe. I dont own a derringer of their's but have read good reviews about the Cobra Titan. The Cobra derringers seem to go around $200.

Maybe someone who owns one can tell you some more about it.

I have a Cobra derringer in 9mm. If I was in the market for one, I would recommend getting it in .38 special or some other revolver cartridge. The semi auto cartridges are a little hard to load sometimes. You have to get the extractor in the case groves on the shells. Other than that It's a decent little gun.

My preferance is North American Arms Stainless 5 shot models. I've had several of the standard .22 Long Rifle models, my Dad claimed the first, and my Uncles got the next two. I had my name engraved on the next one, and I've a leather belt pouch that makes it look like an IPhone . I've walked in hospitals, etc. and even gone through metal detectors wthout difficulty. I'm LEO and they probably didn't scan me as well as others. I used mine to dispatch a rabid fox. They are manageable, small, and with modern hollowpont bullets, not bad as a backup to my Sig.

NAA .22 is tiny, works good.
Or this:

Looks bad-$$$$. Might as well spring for the titanium version.

Default NAA is NOT a derringer

a "derringer" is not a small pistol.
It is a particular design, break-open, one or two barrels, usuall two barrels in an over-under pattern.

The North American Arms guns are small single action revolvers. They hold 5 shots, not 1 or 2.
Except for the caliber they are far superior to a derringer in every other way.

P.S. Since you want to stay in the few hundred dollars or less price range, consider the High Standard double-action derringer. I have one in .22 magnum caliber. Smooth trigger pull. Very accurate despite the crude sighting system.

I im not a fan of a single action derringer as a carry gun but after seeing the heizer defense derringer I like their concept alot. Its a double action 2 shot 9mm or 45acp. Kinda high but that's what i would get if I was in the derringer market.

I`ve had one of these for about 35 years now, and really like it for the use it serves. I`ve heard that the wallet holster that came with it back then is now illegal?

Nic I do not believe that is true now. I do believe that the last round of "good" gun laws in GA did away with any requirement of a holster and that should have made any such holster legal. Of course it is entirely possible that I am mistaken and of course anything I say should be taken as such.

Not sure, but I think the problem with wallet holsters is not that they are/aren't a holster, but that they disguise the weapon to create an "any other weapon." Gray area?

You can find some of the Bond Arms models a lot cheaper than $500. I have seen them before online on some of the gun auction sites for $325 or so.

You probably won't buy a Snake Slayer IV model for that price but you can find something like the Texas Defender model, and always change up barrels at a later date.

Here is the ruling on the derringer / wallet combo: http://www.titleii.com/bardwell/atf_letter19.txt

so theoretically, you could not carry one in say, a cell phone type case? it would have to be in an actual holster, correct?

Default double action

I don't like single-action traditional derringers.

I have a High Standard double-action-only derringer in .22 magnum. I like that.

Isn't there a new "derringer" on the market, or coming soon? I saw something about it in a gun magazine. American Rifleman/ Guardian maybe?
It's a polymer-framed DAO derringer in a major caliber like .45 or something like that.
But it, too, was expensive.
