Default Best way to hunt beavers (not trapping)

We gots a bit of a beaver issue that needs to be resolved. The recommendations that I have gotten seem to be about the same. They all have said that beavers are nocturnal and the best way to get 'em is to destroy part of their dam late in the evening and wait for them to come fix it.

Any other suggestions??

That's how we've done it in the past. Late evening into the night. On moonlit nights, you can see the wake they leave and they're pretty easy to pop with a round of buckshot. Use a red lense on a spotlight. I always called my local game warden and told him what I was doing in case anyone reported me for spotlighting. He's always been laid back and agreeable.

Agree 100%!!!

We had a trapper come in and setup on our main lake (approx. 40 acres), as the beavers had become quite a bit of a problem. He was hired by the county to trap. He collected $35.00 per pelt from them.
He did trapping for free for us then , even though were private prop.
He had initially said he might set up to 7 traps, but when he saw the signs of more, he set 12 traps. Took him one and a half hours.
Next day he had caught 12 beavers!!!!!!!!!

Even he was surprised by this!!!

He also caught 8 more the next night on our other lake.

He'll be back next week for more.

Put out some corn, beavers love it. We pour corn on the dam, and when they come out to eat, BAM. Yeah, I bait beavers. Maybe I need to change my name to beaver baiter.

AK 47 a couple of 30 round clips will pretty much destroy a hut. Then reload and wait till late evening/ early night and then make the neighbors wonder whats going on. I killed 13 one evening at my uncles pond.

Do NOT smack the water with a paddle or anyting else, this is an alarm signal in the world of Beaver and is guaranteed to put them out of sight for a good long time.

Having said that, shooting is a good option, if you should decide to breach their dam, if they have a dam, be careful as the water pressure behind it could take you by surprise and give you a good soaking or worse. The time of day you choose to breach the dam doesn't make a lot of difference since they likely won't come out to repair it until evening anyway. That is not necessarily true 100% of the time, but as a general rule will be the case. Try to select a location that allows a fairly steep angle for your shot to avoid ricochets against a flat surface and be sure of where your bullet may go if you do get a ricochet.
Trapping is effective but may take a long time to get the results you want. Beavers get educated very quickly and unless you have some experience trapping them may be frustrating. Set every slide you can find, use a few pieces of Willow, Poplar or other bush that they have been feeding on as bait. Castor mounds are also a good way to attract them to traps. If this is an established colony, expect to have at least six Beavers present at this time of year, the original pair, two two year olds and two kits from last spring. Good luck!

I have killed 4 last week doing it pretty much as Coastie described. they had just moved in this summer. for now they have not fixed the dam back. I'm sure I'll have some more in there this summer.

Forgot to add that you can get over there just before dark and right at last light nail one an evening with a .22. I like doing it this way cause it takes less time. I never sit and wait for more than 20 minutes.
