 Other than being beautiful shots. the fact that the birds are sharing the hand/food is amazing, they sure don't act that friendly around our feeders

I read some where that they only do this when they are migrating. Once they claim their territory for the summer they are aggressive towards each other.

Alfred G. Martin wrote a book called "Hand Taming Wild Birds at the Feeder" sometime in the early to mid-1960's. At Amazon or other used books stores on the web, you can get it for a couple of bucks.
