Default Ten guns everyone should have one of.

1911 .45 acp
Ruger 10/22
AR15
Lever action 30-30
Remington 700 or Winchester 70 in 30-06 or .270
Remington 870 12GA

Well that starts the list....I am sure that an AK47 should be there and with recent history maybe a Glock 9mm and surely some kind of revolver - maybe a S&W 29 in 44 mag. I am sure I am missing some obvious ones.

Ok the rest of my list now....
Ruger #1
AK47 (most popular gun in the world) Can't believe no one else lists it?
Glock (any)
Colt SAA

So what do you think should be the 10 guns everyone should own one of?

Everyone's needs (wants) are different. No such thing as 10 guns everyone should have.

Brand and caliber preferences vary so I would say this

1-Quality bolt action rifle w/better quality scope.Any caliber that would handle deer to elk.
2-home defense shotgun
3-AR of your liking
4-10/22
5-browning or ruger .22 pistol
6-1911 of your choice
7-S&W revolver of your choice
8-compact or sub-compact high quality semi-auto
9-pocket pistol for the summer when wearing lighter clothing
10-omg I just realized I have too many guns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So far this is the one I most agree with. I think that there should be a premier "representative" model or the definitive model of the style.

(Auto Pistols) 1911, Hi-Power, Luger, Ruger MKI
(Revolver - SA) Colt Peacemaker (SAA), Ruger Single-Six
(Revolver - DA) Colt Python, S&W 29
(Single Shot Pistol) XP-100, T/C Contender
(Auto Rifle) M1, AR15
(Bolt Rifle) Winchester Model 70 (Pre-64), Mauser 98, Weatherby Mk 5
(Single Shot Rifle) Ruger #1
(Lever Rifle) Winchester 94, Savage 99, Marlin 336
(Rimfire Rifle) Ruger 10/22, Marlin 39A
(Auto Shotguns) A-5, Rem 1100
(Pump Shotgun) Winchester 1912
(Double BBL Shotgun) Parker, LC Smith, AH Fox
(O/U Shotgun) Browning Superposed

That's more than 10, but oh well I only have 3..

1) .22 LR in semi or lever
2) 12 gauge pump shotgun w/ screw-in chokes
3) bolt action scoped rifle in .30/06 or .270
4) Ruger single-six, 6" barrel with .22 LR and .22 WMR cylinders
5) .50 or .54 muzzle loader. Real one-not one of those unholy scoped inline abominations. Percussion or flintlock. No sabots. No pellets. No polymer tips.
6) Ruger Redhawk .44 mag
7) Assault rifle of your choice. As pnome said, preferably suitably "evil looking."
8) Marlin 336 or old Winchester 94 .30/30
9) Gun that's way too big and powerful for anywhere except Africa, that shoots shells the size of small 'nanners, knocks you flat every time you shoot it, and that there is absolutely no practical reason for you to own-at least .375 H&H mag or .458 Winchester mag-.700 nitro express would be even better.
10) H&R single barrel break-down shot gun in 16 gauge. Just because.

Heck, I can not narrow my safe down to 10 much less the wide open spaces. Here goes a try.

1. .22lr rifle-Nylon 66, 10/22 or single shot any model
2. single shot shotgun-Ithaca M-66, Winchester M-37
3. pump home def-Mossberg 500 ext mag, 870 police
4. large game hunting-Win M-70 (pre-64) in 308, Remington 600 in 308, something in 30/06
5. big bang-Ruger 77 in 458 win mag
6. large pistol-629/29, SBH,any barrel length
7. reg. carry-Glock .45 or Colt 1911
8. small carry-Smith J-frame 36,60 or Glock 27
9. .22 pistol-Walther P22, Ruger Mark I,II
10. military type-SKS (cheap), AK, AR

I left off the greatest of all a Smith Model 10 and a Garand that was thoughtless of me.

An accurate .22 LR you can hunt with. Make/model/action type is not relevant.

An accurate bolt action rifle in a centerfire .22 caliber.

An accurate bolt action rifle in a caliber bigger than .22.

A lever action 30-30.

A pump action rifle in a caliber larger than .22.

A pump action shotgun.

An O/U shotgun decently made.

A Muzzle loader rifle that's accurate.

A decent 38/357 or larger caliber revolver

A decent semi-auto pistol.

Substitution can be made between O/U shotguns and S/S shotguns and big revolver or big semi-auto pistols (380s don't count).

Well I don’t know enough about rifles & guns to have a specific dream list. But I know I would like:

A Minigun
A Bazzoka
A grenade Launcher
That Laser James Bond nearly got circumcised with
Noisy Cricket gun from Men In Black
De-evolution gun from Super Mario Bros
The Death Star
A Shark with a frickin laser beam attached to its head from Austin Powers
A Lightsaber
& Oddjobs Hat
