Default FEMA orders 420 million MRE's

Anyone heard this? I got it off of Townhall.com, but don't trust them as a completely reliable source. I was just wondering if anyone else has another source on this factoid.

VTRman??

Townhall.com reports it as a 7000% increase in their normal order amount. Sounds a bit steep to me.

How do we know? Earlier this month, FEMA (the Federal Emergency Management Agency) put out a Request for Proposal, or RFP, for even more dehydrated food. The RFP called for a 10-day supply of meals - for 14 million people. That's 420 million meals.
Or it is also enough meals for 380k people for one year.

mtr3333

380,000 people X 3 meals a day X 365 = 416 million

Of course they don't really expect it to be broken down for a whole year eating MRE's for that many people. Although something like an Avian Flu pandemic might have such a mobilization requirement.

FEMA issued an RFI for MRE's in January of this year which was later canceled. I haven't heard anything about this latest one.
Whatever the case, you can be sure they're doing this because they love us and want to save us from any disaster, whether natural or engineered.
