Off Grid Attack: EPA To Outlaw Many Wood Burning Stoves

Our ever so helpful government has decided that your wood burning stove is now a danger to the world. In another attempt to outlaw the off grid lifestyle, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the same agency that was recently caught using drones to spy on Americans, is now going after home owners who use Wood Burning Stoves to heat their homes.
Shortly after the re-election of President Obama, the agency announced new radical environmental regulations that threaten to effect people who live off the grid. The EPA’s new environmental regulations reduce the amount of airborne fine-particle matter from 15 micrograms to 12 micrograms per cubic meter of air.
This means that most wood burning stoves would now fall into a class that would deemed unacceptable under these new draconian measures. The EPA has even launched a nifty new website called burn wise to try to sway public opinion.
On their site, while trying to convince people to get rid of their old stoves and buy the new EPA-certified stoves, they sate that these older stove must be scraped and cannot be resold.
From the EPA Site:
The local air pollution agency says I can’t sell my old wood stove to help pay for an EPA-certified wood stove. Why is that?
Replacing an older stove with a cleaner-burning stove will not improve air quality if the older stove is reused somewhere else. For this reason, wood stove changeout programs usually require older stoves to be destroyed and recycled as scrap metal, or rendered inoperable.
Let’s hope this doesn’t fall under the jurisdiction of the newly created Department of Homeland Security Environmental Justice Units? The next thing you know we might all be getting a knock at the door….. Your Neighbor reported that you might be burning some wood, do you mind if we take a look around?

I have been looking at rocket stoves and mass heaters for my shop..those surpass any government standard for emission.

The "The local air pollution agency " is generally following the EPA and ICLEI if your county is a member.
ICLEI formulates greenhouse gas guides for nearly all the counties that participate in Agenda 21 hoopla and really steers much of the draconian statist non-science that results in the erosion of liberty at the local level.

This is the one for Orange County NC

The EPA may set a National tone...but it will be the local Governmental eco-nut that rings your bell. And they will be Agenda 21 driven

Envirometal Payoff Association at it again. They need to outlaw forest fires, controlled burns and volcanoes before they go after the average Joe and ruin his life.

I used to drink the air quality koolaid and not burn my limbs but instead I would chip them [ don't ask about the burning of gasoline to accomplish this ]. Then I read an article about the air pollutants in the western US coast air originating from Chinese factories and I quit worrying about it. I have several big piles waiting for a cold windless day to do some burning

So if I keep a fire going in my fireplace too long, I'm exceeding a pollution regulation and am subject to prosecution? Gimme a break. I'm burning more wood now just to spite them.

Its getting bad, I feel its going to be the sacrifice of some of the "government regulators" who come trying to impose regulations the and the poor folks who have to defend themselves and their livelihood will truly suffer for it. Its a crying shame, and that's an understatement.

Chainsaws are under OSHA's guidance. That will be next since OSHA is re-writing it's policies also.

I am no fan of EPA but in this case it just looks like a voluntary kind of a program they are running....if you dont like their suggestion then dont take it! no one is being forced to get rid of anything.

They aren't going to come grab your vintage potbelly stove. From an economic standpoint the stoves sold today are head and shoulders above "'Ole Betsy". I just took a look at what's for sale since "'Ole Betsy" at deer camp is getting kind of long in the tooth. $1,000 for a high efficiency stove looks right up my alley. I won't have to cut half the firewood I do now to make it from October to April.

ive got one high effic wood stove that looks like a glass door fireplace. Cost 5000 and is hooked into the return air ducts.
That thing will run 24 hours on 24 sticks of oak. More than paid for itself other than the kids complaining because it hits 80 degrees upstairs when its 25 outside. And the house is superinsulated too and wrapped.

The EPA will have to pry my wood burning stove out of my dead, toasty-warm hands.
