Muckalee Mudbugging( Pic Heavy!!!)

Yesterday morning i went to a friends place and caught about 30 huge bream and 9 skinny bass. The bream were fun but off limits so the stunted bass became crawfish bait.
He also has the Muckalee flowing thru his property although it was a jungle to get thru. I put out 7 traps in the creek and 2 more in another buddy's swamp using butterflied( Head left on but backbone removed) bass. Left overnight and came back this morning and pulled them all.
Brother Nicodemus was right. A gator destroyed 2 traps and one trap was missing line and all. So, two lessons learned there: Don't leave overnight and put the traps facing downstream in the most current you can get to.
The 4 remaining muckalee traps were LOADED!
Only saw 2 snakes and pretty sure they were water snakes. I have no doubt another 30 watched me walk by. To say i was nervous would be an understatement.
There was a good haul in the swamp traps as well but they were smaller. They were also a lot redder than the Muck crawfish which were almost jet-black.
I took quite a few pics and although i was sweating and hot, thoroughly enjoyed the last two mornings. By the way, that is a 144 quart cooler and the crawfish were about 6 inches deep in that end. :fine:

Fine catch of bugs, Robert. Sorry about the trap, gators can be a pest. I`ll be willing to bet pole climbin` money that if you`ll put a beetlespin in the creek, you`ll catch all the bream you want to clean. Probably some shoal and largemouths too.

Turkey cooker full of water, zatarains crab boil, Old Bay seasoning, and half a bottle of lemon juice is on high.
Had a solid 5 gallon bucketful of bugs so poured salt and submerged them for about 20 minutes to purge and then rinsed with freshwater. Have no idea if that really does anything but have always heard to do it.
They are sitting in the sink waiting on a call from the governor and that ain't likely. :bounce:

Them look good, I would have had to try the bream if I got close to the creek.

Nice cooler of bugs! Man, I LOVE then thangs'

Snakes will get in them too..
Most of the time I've had them they were drowned,
found three water moccasins in one trap.

I have had a couple of times where the current
washed them up just high enough for them to breath.
Scared the crap out of me the first few times but
I'm real careful about that now. Almost expect it..

Congrats on a nice haul and fun trip.. :D

I've seen some real pretty land down there, you can't tell that man has even been there. I must admit that I really enjoy it. Just have to watch your step. Kinda makes me slow down and enjoy it a little more anyway. But on the other hand I'm glad we don't have that problem up here.......for the most part...
