Yesterday morning i went to a friends place and caught about 30 huge bream and 9 skinny bass. The bream were fun but off limits so the stunted bass became crawfish bait.
He also has the Muckalee flowing thru his property although it was a jungle to get thru. I put out 7 traps in the creek and 2 more in another buddy's swamp using butterflied( Head left on but backbone removed) bass. Left overnight and came back this morning and pulled them all.
Brother Nicodemus was right. A gator destroyed 2 traps and one trap was missing line and all. So, two lessons learned there: Don't leave overnight and put the traps facing downstream in the most current you can get to.
The 4 remaining muckalee traps were LOADED!
Only saw 2 snakes and pretty sure they were water snakes. I have no doubt another 30 watched me walk by. To say i was nervous would be an understatement.
There was a good haul in the swamp traps as well but they were smaller. They were also a lot redder than the Muck crawfish which were almost jet-black.
I took quite a few pics and although i was sweating and hot, thoroughly enjoyed the last two mornings. By the way, that is a 144 quart cooler and the crawfish were about 6 inches deep in that end.
