2000 Johnson 25 HP prop question

When placed into gear, the little engine only pushes my 16 foot only 3-4 mph. Prop producing thrust, just not enough. The prop can be turned by hand with engine in gear pretty easy without the engine turning (probably 5-10 foot pounds). This is a splined prop that basically installs over a rubber sleeve then tightened by the nut and cotter pin. Anyone seen these props do this before?

Sounds like you have a spun hub a prop shop can replace it for you.

That would be my guess if the motor is revving and the boat doesn't move. If you can remove the rubber grommet and spline from the prop by hand that is definitely a problem.

You can get a new prop for $50.

A check you can do. See if it needs a new shear pin. Should be available at dealer or any large bait shop.

Had to order a new prop. $84 from Sewell Marine in Newnan...The rubber bushing that the splined portion fits on to had separated. Was incorrect prop installed also.
