Altamaha near Jesup

Has anyone floated around Doctortown bridge. I have been wanting to paddle the area and fish but also explore the area around the bridge where the Gulfmist barge is down and also the logging equipment and steamboat wrecks.

Been many years since I was there, but I would think it will be a challenge.

The altamaha has pretty good current most everywhere most all the time.
It's a great river to cover distance on but holding in a place is hard. The flow of the river of course is not always from one bank to the other due to bends in the river and the inside of a curve might be slack water.... but dont plan on paddling back UP to your truck. Uou will most certainly want to shuttle.

BTW check out Morgan Lake and Penhollaway Creek. Not the main river but a lot more canoe friendly.

Kind of a late response but we paddled from the headwaters of the Altamaha to Altamaha State Park... Great 6 day jaunt.
