Consider how many milk cows there are. As they age the amount of milk they produce goes down. At a certain point the farmer decide to swap to a younger cow. What do you think happens to the older cow? Sent to the slaughterhouse where her steaks enter the stream of meat to be consumed.

I know I'm weird but I want watch as the guy in the meat department at the grocery store looks meet the request for a steak from a young cow and not from one of those worn out holsteins.

Actually not steaks they’re ground up, mostly for fast food restaurants ?

After the hide is stripped off it's just a carcass hanging on the hook. The meat is sent where it's needed that moment. Cows are not sorted to different destinations and destined for different uses based on age on the hoof.

You really believe a used up dairy cow is being sold as USDA prime?

Brother man, a dairy cow wont even cut up the same as a cow bred for meat. Have you ever looked at a holstien or a jersey next to one of the meat breeds?? The dont even look like the same animal. Good grief?

And you think that slaughtered cows with the hide removed look different from each other.

They sure do, but you wont belive me no matter what i say so what does it matter. If it didnt matter why have different cow breeds at all? Seems like any smart farmer would just raise all dairy cows then sell them steaks after they are dried up. Cant belive there are fools out there raisin angus beef n whatnot

And after they are cut up with a meat saw they can still be told apart?

As someone who spent half my life raising beef cattle, and has also worked on a dairy farm, I can tell you that yes, yes they certainly, absolutely do and are. Beef cattle and dairy cattle are two totally different things, and are sold and slaughtered at different facilities. An old Holstein doesn't go to the same place or get used for the same purposes as fat young Angus or Hereford or Charlois steers. Trust me on that. I seriously doubt if you've spent more time at a stockyard than I have.

You don't even have the same folks buying good beef cattle and old scroungy wore-out dairy cattle.

Yes, they certainly do, very much so, if you know the first durn thing about beef. A dairy cow and a beef cow skinned out look absolutely nothing alike. Trust me, I've seen them. Plus, All beef used for steaks or any similar purposes is graded for fat content and marbling. Beef isn't beef, and if you think it is, you are showing your ignorance. Before you run your mouth about something, you should learn some facts or at least basic knowledge about it. Beef like you are describing is low-end stuff that goes into dog food and low-end cheap hamburger.

Just the opinion of someone who grew up raising cattle and has every neighbor and half of my family still raising beef or running dairy farms. I probably don't know as much as somebody who has probably never been within ten feet of a cow, though.

You really believe USDA Prime tells you any thing about the breed or age of the cow that was slaughtered?
Yes, and more importantly, the fat content and degree of marbling.

Yes, absolutely, very much so. I'm glad you're not a beef buyer or grader.

I hadn't realized I was poking the true believers of a pagan religion. Didn't even know there was one. But hey, someone has to have a reason to sell all those out door grills.

There is absolutley nothing more that can be said to you. You, sir, know the most about things that you don't have the first durn clue about of anybody I've ever seen, I believe. It's kind of sad. If somebody told you it was dark at night and light in the day, you'd argue with them, and say that the sun and the moon were exactly the same.
