Another Firearm question

I am heading to venice LA for some offshore fishing and would like to bring a firearm. It is a private boat. Has anyone done this before? Is it legal? Any specific rules about storage?

Secondly any gotchas i need to worry about on the drive down there as far as laws for driving from GA, AL, to LA?

i know al. has very strict laws, almost as bad as ca. be careful
