Last day of season, my uncle missed a gobbler there the day before and a bunch were running together and they all scattered. Walked about two miles, didn't hear a thing, set up blind and called a hen in to 5 feet. She left, hung out there another hour and started walking stopping ever hundred yards to hit the crow call, nothing still. Made it to my truck, unloaded my shotgun, unlocked the door, started to get in but decided to hit the call one last time and one lit up the morning silence 100 yards above me on the strip. I shoved 3 shells in the Winchester and across the road I went.
Made it to the strip, hit the call, he triple gobbled, but he's above the highwall and no way to get up over it. I start easing along and step on a stick, POP...I think the jig is up, five seconds later he flies off the highwall in the open at 25 yards.
