Cabelas Bighorn combo

Looking thru Cabelas to replace a really old cheap flyrod i broke couple months ago and saw this combo set up on sale for $69. Any input on this set up. I am just looking for something to use at the pond on occasion slinging little poppers. I am by no means an accomplished fly fisher, just enjoy throwing one every now and then. Might throw it on a mountain stream on rare occasion, but mostly pond or small river. The one I broke was 8ft 5wt. Thinking 9ft 5wt. this time. Looks like a decent little entry level setup. Any thoughts?

I don't think you will go wrong at that price. I would only suggest getting better line than it comes with.

As already mentioned, the problem with the combos is they throw in the cheapest fly line available, and that’s the most important piece of your outfit.

My recommendation for a beginner outfit is inexpensive rod (TFO and Redington make good low end rods), dirt cheap reel (eBay Chinese reels work fine), and top-of-the-line flyline (Rio or SA).

Most of the Cabela's combos I've seen have bben good quality for the money.
