Converting Rem BDL Stock to Matte.

What is the best method to cut the shine on a Rem M700 BDL stock?

I want this one to have less glare without doing a total
refinish.

I have heard of masking off the checkering and going to work with steel wool and other media.

Any suggestions????

0000 steel wool is what I would use, and be very patient.

Get yourself some 800 or 1000 grit sandpaper and babyoil. Babyoil being the lubricant. Wet the fourth of the stock you want to do with the oil and then sand LIGHTLY hardly any pressure at all. Be very careful of the edges as they will cut very quick. Wipe the oil off and and you will see what you have accomplished so far then do it some more if need be. If you want just the shine knocked off this will work great and leave you a protective coat still.

Jampton, Jack,

Thanks for the suggestions.

Jack, should I mask-off the checkering? Will the baby oil bother it?

Thanks.
