A professor of archaeology at KSU explained that when a ceramic vessel broke the pieces were reworked to a size and shape that were used for games, pendants, and various other items.

Not all were made from ceramic, I have a hardstone game piece/disk that I found and know of several more from the same area.

We call them checkers

Maybe game piece but thinking it has some curve to it was probably some type of ceremonial pottery.

I have a piece that has a bird or duck head but is fairly rounded. Showed it to Son Anderson several years back and he agreed it was more than likely ceremonial.

As far as what he said is Native Americans in this region spent their time on functional pieces (points, pottery, or ceremonial)
