If you don't shoot often, then no, its not needed. What happens though is that breech plug flash holes enlarge over time and a certain number of shots. This will change your group sizes and sooner or later you'll have to replace your breech plug.
This product, although expensive, completely stops all flash hole wear and you never have to replace another breech plug.
When I was shooting 2,000 rounds a year, some plugs might last 100 shots, others might last 150 shots. I went through a lot of breech plugs each year. Had this product been available then, I'd have never had to replace a single plug.
