CVA Optima help

So I picked up a brand new CVA optima for a good deal the other day, I have always hunted with a TC Hawkins but wanted to pick up something for possibly going on out of state muzzle loader hunts.

Can anyone recommend a good load for this gun? Also do I need to upgrade the breech plug or is the stock one ok? Was reading about having to upgrade for BH?

Thanks for any help.

Purchase the BH209 breech plug, then Barnes 290gr T-EZ bullets. Anywhere from 100grs to 110grs VOLUME of BH makes a sweet load.

Is it as simple as unscrewing the current breach plug and screwing the BH209 plug in? Special primers for BH209?

Yes. They should provide you with a seating tool that you only use ONCE. After that, it installs and removes just as your current BP does.
With BH you want to use a full strength primer, NOT a primer meant for T7, Pyrodex, or BP. Most use a WIN209 shotgun primer, while others use either the CCI209M or Federal 209A magnum primers.
Read about BH on the web page, make sure you read the FAQS

Thanks for your help. I ordered the BH breach plug today and will hit the range when it comes it.
