Popped a tough old boar on opening day of the first Ocmulgee big game hunt. Was out scouting a new area around 1pm. Wind was blowing hard, so I was slipping through some cattails full of fresh rooting. Heard some splashing nearby, looked up, and this nasty thing had his head buried in the mud at 15 yards. Popped him in between his ears with a .223 federal fusion out of an 18in AR. He dropped, but was still thrashing around, breathing heavy. Walked up and shot him again in the eye and he started thrashing harder and squeeling, so I finally pulled out my 9mm and shot him AGAIN in the head, and he finally went stiff and died.
This thing reeked and stunk like a dumpster, but I figured I would pull him out the woods and check him out anyway. Loaded him on my game cart and on closer inspection he had his scrotum ripped open at some point in the past and part of his testicles were hanging out, rotten, draining pus and stained from either mud, or rot. Pretty clear he was in poor health. Had a few sores around his body too, just little pink lesions with no fur.
Needless to say I left him in the woods. Went to the check station and told the DNR an estimated weight, and showed them the pictures, went home, and clorox wiped all my gear down.
Crazy that this pig was living like that, obviously for a while, and still took 3 head shots to finally kill.
