Yesterday morning I went to a favorite location for getting photo's of deer. Before it was light enough to use the camera I saw a pair of coyotes come through on the hunt. The male was darker like the image that I got last year by the lake on a log. As he came closer and down wind it was like he hit an electric fence when he hit my "scent cone". Immediately he did a 180 and was out of sight in seconds. Their sense of smell is probably their greatest survival tool. Saw two bucks together. One looked to be 1 1/2 yrs old with a tiny basket rack. Later with better light the female coyote came back slipping through the shadows. She was a good 40 yards away and heard my shutter and spotted me. I have the shutter in "silent mode" which isn't totally silent but about half as loud.
