The best plot I've had Luck with is Buck Forage Oats mixed with durana clover and over seeded with Soybeans an Claypeas you could add some turnips to mix aswell Ive seen a pile of deer killed in buckforage oats an clover plots. Clover keeps coming back if established so you can cut An have spring turkeys hanging out in the regrowth plot.

With a quarter acre plot you'd be wasting your time to plant a summer plot. Deer would wipe it out overnight. Save your money and do a fall plot.

^^^ This... we have small plots but they are planted in early to mid September. A couple of fat does will destroy a small plot, we don't plant them before we can deter some of the browsing..
