Gar Fly

While I do go after gar with a rope fly now and then, my preference is to hook them on whatever fly I have that they will take. They'll usually jump a couple of times then throw the hook. No time spent trying to un-entangle the rope fly and I got the best part of the hookup, the jumps. Caught on last week on a chatterbait. Same results; got him to the boat and he made an alligator roll and came off. Just what I wanted.

Have y’all ever eat gar? I live on the Chattahoochee between mossy cove and Duncan bridge and catch them semi regularly while casting for bass and stripers. They are really good!!! I cut through them with a sawzall and cut the back straps out and fry them up. It’s a winner.
