A old fashioned hair spray "spud gun" is cheaper, and no compressor needed. We used to use one to chum for sharks in the gulf. But that is a cool rig.

We gave careful consideration to combustion designs. We went with this design, because combustion designs have much larger shot to shot variations in velocities and therefore bait launching distances. We wanted more uniformity in bait launch distances. (We've made several combustion cannons previously. Distances are all over the map. )

Given the effort to prepare the frozen baits beforehand, we wanted to minimize failed bait placements, and the pneumatic design does that.
