How to removed tape residue safely from gun?

Guys, picked up a shotgun that had been camo taped with the stuff you get from Bass pro. It has left a sticky tape residue.

Anyone recommend something that will safely remove the residue without hurting the finish/bluing of the gun?

Best, and easiest product to use is WD40.

I spray onto a rag or paper towel, then rub on the affected area(s). Works like a champ!!

I had a Russian shotgun a few years back that I taped up. When I went to clean off the residue I used Hoppes #9 and a paper shop towel and just about wiped off the finish !!! Yikes !! Not really blued more of a surface treatment or something. So test on a hidden spot before hitting the whole gun.
