If you want to feel great as a turkey hunter, go to Texas!

While Texas is an extremely fun place to hunt, it is not as easy as some people are making it seam. The reason the success is so high in texas is the amount of birds. I saw 19 longbeards in a 4 hour period on one hunt in Texas this spring, and we killed 2 of them. The open terrain causes a lot of birds to hang up 60-80 yards away. Now I do think in general Rio's are easier to kill, and they definitely gobble more, but it's not shooting fish in a barrel as some may think.

Yea that is one of the reasons you see so many hunting shows filmed there!

Nice way to check out your pattern at close range huh lol

That choke at 18 yards is just devastating! I killed one earlier here in GA at 9 yards.... I felt bad for that turkey just a little bit, haha!

Is that what you do? If so, what outfitter do you use?

Not going to put that out in the open. His spots are limited, and I prefer to keep mine. If you want some info, shoot me a PM.

Thanks

Moving to Texas next month and looking forward to some new opportunities.

Where about?

I was born and raised in Texas. In all my years there, I never did kill a turkey. My dad was on a lease for a few years that had some birds, but not many. The property we have now does not have any turkey. It just wasn't meant to be.
