Is this edible?

I found several of these small trees growing near a field. Does anyone recognize this plant and are the berries edible?

Looks like Buckthorn to me. If so, I wouldn't eat it.

Looks like one of the Elaeagnus. If it is, then yes. Positively identify before trying anything. Cross reference several books. The red berries, middle right, look like Elaeagnus. Are the undersides of the leaf silver?

Thank you. From the pictures I see on the web, it does look a lot like Elaeagnus. Next time I will check the undersides of the leaf, I didn’t notice of it was silver.

I'm exactly like chehawknapper. At first glance, autumn olive, Eleagnus umbellata. If so, the berries are edible. But, it's hard to give you a for-certain ID from that pic.
