Just a thought

Here beside my house I bought an old pasture/pecan orchard a couple years ago and have been planting trees and letting native weeds and grasses grow as they want on different parts. I planted the back half in loblolly pines last year and in the front of the pines I’ve got some chestnuts and plums mixed in but I’m rows with the pines. I’m thinking about planting a strip of clover in between these first four rows. Does this sound like a good idea or am I thinking from the wrong end?
