Looking for hickory/osage staves

We have swamp hickory here but not a lot of it. Good hard wood but all I have seen lately is green. No dead wood. I am thinking about getting some for my Green River knife grips but I am still looking for some dead wood to use. I don't really want to cut green wood unless its winter and the sap is low especially for a bow stave. No osage here that I know of.
