Decent walking pace... knocked it down and got up and casually walked like I never hit it. Knocked it down again at about 35yds and the same thing again. It walked 10yds in front of my stand and finished it with a neck shot. How that deer got back up twice I'll never know..... it was dead on it's feet after the first shot. Weird...
I use a shotgun with buckshot because of all of the low lying brush and small twigs you can't see through a scope. I've missed more deer than I care to remember only to find a small broken twig where a bullet hit and deflected. After missing a coyote on what I thought was an open 30yd shot 4yrs ago, I pulled out my old single shot 20ga and loaded it with rem #3 buck. Dropped a nice 8pt buck a few weeks afterwards at 35yds with that combo. Been using shotguns with buckshot ever since in the thick stuff. Haven't missed a deer within range with a shotgun yet...Thanks for the pics! That was a lot of damage at 45 yards!
I happen to have a combination with 12ga over .308 that I have used for the taking of my only deer with 00 buck. I need to get it to the range and get it ready for a bear, hog or deer hunt in the near future. It will be slugs for bear or hogs and slugs or buckshot for deer.
Some people think #4 buckshot is too small for deer.... lol, keep a tight pattern and it'll take a deer at 40yds very easily. It always amazes me on the negative comments on hunting with buckshot. They always come from someone with zero experience and knowledge of how to use it.... and more often than not they're familiar with patterning a shotgun.

Yep... hit it twice and got every vital organ multiple times except for the heart. Go figger... I was dumbfounded after gutting it. It was definitely an odd experience.
Lol, it was dead on its feet after I hit it the first time. I've hit deer with a .243, .300Sav, 30-30 and .35Rem all perfect heart and lung shots and still had them run 50-60yds or go straight down. Same thing with #3, 00 and 000 buckshot. There's no perfect formula for a bang flop shot every time unless you whack it in the melon or break the spine. Some deer are more sprited than others and they don't want to go down while some instantly go down.
