I almost forgot , I was in the Army in Alaska at the time doing a joint training exercise with the Alaskan National Guard , All the NCO's were in a tent waiting for a briefing , about 14 of us including 6 from the Alaskan NG. , One of NG guys pulls a bag out of his pocket and pulls out a piece jerky and started to eat it will everyone ws looking at him so he offered us some we all took a piece and started to eat , I had a unique flavor but tasty , My First Sargent asked him if it was Caraboo or Seal.
He said no "Sled Dog", Didn't bother me but 4 guys burst out of the tent to throw up.

Prolly raw river clams, with some Tabasco on them. We would drift/walk the Red River fishing and pull up on a shoal and just wade out there and grab us some. The were big as a baseball. Sure it was not that healthy, but they were good. We did grill some possum one night, pretty sure alcohol might have been involved.
