Neighbor found this mushroom growing on the ground in leaves. Any help identifying would be appreciated.

It’s one of the coral fungi. There are lots and lots of species of them, along with a bunch of false corals.

So probably want to error on the side of caution and recommend the neighbor not eat them? Thanks for the identification.

Definitely. You should never eat any shroom that you can’t hang a positive species id on. The corals are one of those groups with a few edible species that aren’t that good to start with, and some species that are moderately toxic.
