I know this is a long shot, but does anyone have any chicken crates I could borrow from Today until Friday? I need about 7-8 of them. I have a trip to the processor for 65 chickens scheduled for tomorrow and still haven't been able to find any carriers and can't afford to buy any. I am willing to rent them. I am located in Cherokee County.

You taking them straight to a processor ?? Cut ya some holes in card board boxes ! I saw a discussion some about processors that done stuff beisdes bigbgame, pigs anb beef. Ones that done chickens, rabbits, goats and whatnot !

I am heading straight to the processor. However, it is a 3 hour drive and I wasn't sure if cardboard boxes would allow enough airflow without weakening the box due to too many holes.

However, I will be leaving my house at or before 0400, so it will be dark and cool on the ride over.

3 hrs one way? 6 hrs round trip??? Are you gonna wait on em or go back and pick em up? With that kind of time you could process them yourself. Not that much to it. Unless you need em usda butcher stamped. Get cardboard boxes cut lots of holes. What kinda rig are you haulin 65 chichens in?

Yep, 6 hours round trip. I will be hanging out close to Birmingham for the day, and heading back tomorrow evening. Sadly, I have butchered many chickens in my time, but need that stamp. I will get some cardboard boxes this evening.

I gotcha, the hoops we have to jump through now days. Take you a drill and one of the hole saw bit things. Drill you a few holes about eye level with a chicken. Should be ok.

Run a strip of duck tape around the cardboard boxes. Will keep them together enough for the trip.

Went to bed at 11pm on Wednesday.
Got up at 2:30am on Thursday.
Hit the road at 4:18am.
Got to the processor at 7:00am.
Got back home at 7:15pm.
Finished unloading the coolers at 8:00pm.
Finshed other farm chores at 9:45pm.
Went to bed at 10:15pm
Up at 4:30pm this morning

Exhausted and sore don't describe how I feel, but it is definitely worth it.

I think that this was pure awesomeness. I’ll bet that I could buy a box of trout flies cheaper than I could buy all the materials to tie them, but it just would not be the same. I think you knocked it out of the park.
