Planting Sugar Beets

Anybody ever plant Sugar Beets and do you know if it's better to plow them under or topseed and drag. I planted a couple pounds last year and had decent success topseeding but the hogs demolished everything so I really couldn't tell how they did.

We have tried planting sugar beets off and on for 30 years. We never had any great success with them. the climate and soil just do not favor them, We have tried something called a "mangel" - same family.

My opinion is that some sort of turnip is a better use of time, money and results.

I've never heard of mangel but will definitely look for it as I love to try new stuff.
