Also, I have a hard time controlling fire ant in my yard. How in the world can you control them on a deer lease? But, I do agree they could be a contributing factor.

Fire Ants are Brutal!

We started getting rid of fire ants, and the wild quail have returned around here. As many as there were 50 years ago. We do have good habitat though. And contrary to popular belief, we are overrun with predators, and they have helped both turkeys and quail. Brush wolves have nearly done away with armadillos, and kept coons and possums in check.
what y'all using to get rid of the fire ants?

I’ve seen coons rot to dust before anything would touch them. Even the buzzards won’t jump on them right away. If something did prey on them I doubt I’d ever have any in my traps the next day. I read a study in TX of big boar coons taking out fawns. (Not hunting them down but killing them when stumbled upon)
