Further South you go the more Cottonmouth Snakes there are.
SW Georgia and the Big Bend of Florida we got them crawling all over the place.

Anywhere North of Macon. Down here you’d swear you had moved to hades. Gnats, skeeters, snakes, and gators just help reinforce that idea. Then again that may be why our land is a little cheaper and our deer are bigger and more plentiful.
And we the DEVILS!

Alabama definitely the way to go. Harris county being close to Alabama it is not even a question. The tax situation especially for someone reitred is way better and plenty of cheap land/ hunting land

You can join a club pretty easy...a good one not so easy but you'll have access to a lot more acres to hunt, if you're retired you can go during the week and mostly they are pretty close to empty then. One thing to look at is good competent medical care being available...that's not true of many places in Georgia, particularly south Georgia.

$300k is not going to get you very much property with a dwelling. Here in the coastal area of Georgia you can find maybe 20-30 acres for that with no improvements. I would stay towards the middle of the state and look and look and look some more. There are deals out there, but you're gonna have to put the leg work in.

I would be in Alabama, somewhere south of the line between Auburn and Livingston, but stay in the Black Belt, above the wiregrass/coastal plain area. Bunch of big deer down there.

I love North Georgia, but will probably move when I retire.

If your considering other states, Alabama is good, as well as Mississippi. When I retire, I might consider Mississippi myself.
