I don't know about where you live, but heavy hauler trucks go through here pretty regular. If you've seen one of these rigs, they are well, pretty different. There's one bunch that comes through here pretty regular that pulls an outfit that looks more like a train than a truck trailer. A heap of trusses on top of a gob of axles. I'm not sure, but I think they haul large turbines for power plants. I guess this paticular rig was between 200 feet and 250 feet long maybe more. The cab had 4 axles, the steer tires and 3 dual drive axles. The front of the rig had 3 more dual wheeled axles followed by another deal that had 3 more dual axles and another that had 2 axles followed by a second deal with 2 axles. Then there was the flat bed part where the cargo would be except it was empty. Behind that were more axles similar to the front end of the trailer rig. I counted 10 more axles on the trailer sections behind the flat bed portion. So far, we have 20 axles 19 of which have 4 tires each. That's 82 tires on that rig. (I bet the Firestone Garage loves him. :bounce: )

Anyway, tagging along behind the trailer part was the thing I have never ever ever seen on one of these outfits. A Cummins Pusher powered helper. This thing rode on 3 more dual wheeled axles (that brings him up to 94 tires) had a big Cummins pusher and a tranny. When he romped on the truck going up the hill, that pusher came to life, smoke shot out it's stacks and it went to helping push the whole outfit up the hill.

I don't know what this guy was going to fetch or if he had done fetched it and hauled it where it went and was headed home or what, but I know one thing, I bet it cost a little more to ship that what Bass Pro charged to mail me a feeder motor for my Apple Barrel.

That same rig came through Elberton today with a hugh round thing on it . It was covered with a white plastic wrap. They took up 2 lanes of traffic with it. There was an escort rig with it with lights flashing . There were several spare axels with wheels and tires ready to use for spares I guess in front of the back engine. I thought they might be going down to Russell Lake for a pump back turbine or something. It was the biggest contraption I have ever seen on a public road.

There must be 2 of those rigs. I don't believe he could have loaded that "thing" and drove to Elberton about mid day today.I don't think he could have unloaded it and be back in Kentucky either.

your right it's for the power plant it's one of the condencor cooler things they use don't know what the real name of it is. Have you ever seen one come through that had another person on the back end stiring it around corners now that's something to see

I believe he could have delivered that German canon from WWII that you see mounted on a train on the History Chanel. I know I'd hate to have to tote that gun in the woods, and it could probably haul the eifel tower stand to your place. :D

Back in the mining days here, it wasnt' uncommon to see a heavy hauler with a dozen axles delivering a Uke or D-11 dozer. One year, they stated out to a mine on the other side of my farm and got to the overhead truss bridge at the farm and had a problem. It wouldn't fit under the bridge, so they unloaded the dozer and started to drive it across on it's tracks. When they got in the middle of the bridge, the 130 ton machine bowed the bridge down to the point that the ends rolled out of the bunks about 8 inches or so. I figured I was going to have to take the long way back to town, but soon as he got to the other side, the bridge sprung back up.

I've got a buddy who hauls house boats for Somerset and others in that area. One year they were hauling a 20' wide boat to somewhere in Alabama. The main office forgot about that section of I-59 that goes through Georgia. They had permits for Kentucky, Tennessee, and Alabama but not Georgia. The Ga highway patrol wasn't amused and stopped him making him sit at Tiffin until he got the permits. When dark fell, they decided they might be able to sneak through and make it to Alabama. They sent one of the escorts ahead running 90 mph between exits while the truck followed behind hauling the boat. 1 speeding ticket later, they were in Alabama.

Could have been. He was headed toward I-75 on 25E which comes off of I-40 about 40 miles east of Knoxville, so if he somehow came North to I-40. A normal truck could probably pull it in about 5 hours. It was about 6:30 when I passed it.
