I have an ATN X-Site HD2 5-20. The factory IR is junk. With an aftermarket IR I can identify targets over 300 yds on the darkest night.

Nightvision is "budget friendly" compared to thermal. I have less than $800 in my optics.

I couldn't afford thermal :-(Snapchat-230372758.jpg

Like 4x4, I also use ATN X-sight II 5-20x. It works okay with the provided illuminator, but I also have an aftermarket that works far better. I do use a 20000 mAh battery pack to power mine as it will eat AA batteries in a hurry. I have several profiles on it and swap between a 308 (ar platform), 6.8 and 556 all on AR platform. I like the 556 for varmit control in/around pond areas where beaver are a huge issue (i've trapped 15 since Dec 1). I prefer the 6.8 for coyote as I custom built it for my son to shoot whitetail and it does a number on yotes. The 308 is hog control and it really shines with the NV. I'd love thermal, but can't justify the cost.
