I would VENTURE to say that jerry means an outside dog exposed to the elements is more susceptible to the elements.

This is Mrs Carabrook.
Take care of fleas with Frontline and make sure you flea bomb house, car, etc. Plus vaccum alot. That is the most efficient method for the pests. And, the BAD thing is fleas spend more time in carpets then they do on the dog. Typically if you have fleas you also have to deal with tapeworm.
Show dogs are bathed in people products and dog products most important is getting the soap out and if need be use a good cream rinse. I've used dishdetergent on the dogs to really clean the hair but followed it up with a good cream rinsing - let it sit 5 minutes and wash it off. This includes my German Shepherd and the hounds.
Just like people hair some products dry the coat/hair/skin too much. I totally agree that you don't want to remove all the oil for a house dog or outdoor dog but as Mr Carabrook stated we have dogs that are bathed 4+ times a week.
